Horses for Main Courses!

Horses aren't generally on the menu at York race course, but one horse and jockey at this year’s Welcome to Yorkshire’s Ebor Festival was literally good enough to eat, reports the York Press.

York’s Royal Opera House set designer and artist Caitlin Jones created a 16ft mural of a horse and jockey made from locally produced food during the four-day festival.

The artwork included more than 150 Yorkshire puddings, four crates of rhubarb, five kilogrammes of Sandhutton potatoes, two barrels of Ampleforth apples, three sacks of carrots, a heaped basket of radishes, 20 punnets of Vale of York strawberries, four crates of mushrooms from Thirsk and two huge sacks of freshly harvested Cawood wheat and barley.

The mural was commissioned to celebrate York Racecourse Hospitality’s commitment to using Yorkshire produce.
